One Foot in the Background

300.00

By David Kidd. Watercolor, 28x38 cm (11x15") on 150 pound 100% rag paper.

The strong bar of scarlet and black represents the upholding strength of the stool. So I represent a force without showing the visual object. What was an almost unseen foot at the back gradually became the most important part of the picture to me. Without it the dynamism of the figure was unbalanced. The roughness of the brushstrokes emphasizes the physical act of painting itself, drawing attention to the "process of creating.
